The Secret to a Creamy Dairy Free Sauce
The key to getting that rich, creamy texture without any dairy is Tofutti non-dairy cream cheese. It’s a soy-based product and one of my favorite dairy free substitutes. it’s incredibly versatile for dairy free cooking and mimics the thick, tangy quality of Greek yogurt beautifully in this sauce.
If you need to swap it out, Tofutti also makes a non-dairy sour cream that works just as well here. One heads-up: both the non dairy sour cream and non dairy cream cheese start out a little stiff right out of the container, but just keep stirring and it will smooth right out into the same creamy consistency.
Is This Really Tzatziki?
Technically, traditional tzatziki is made with yogurt and usually includes dill. This is a tzatziki-inspired sauce. It has the same creamy base and cucumber-garlic-lemon flavor profile, just without the dairy or the dill. Call it what you like, but I promise it tastes fantastic.
